Anti-DFS70 Antibodies
Test details
SARDs are a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by dysregulation of the immune system, that starts to turn against the body’s own tissues. Major SARDs include systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis and Sjögren’s syndrome. These diseases can affect multiple organs and share common symptoms such as fatigue, fever, joint pain and skin rash. Diagnosis relies on a combination of clinical assessment and specific autoantibody tests. Early diagnosis is crucial to initiate appropriate therapy and slow down disease progression.
Anti-DFS70 antibodies against the Dense Fine Speckles 70 (DFS70) antigen (also known as Lens Epithelium–Derived Growth Factor – LEDGF) are a distinctive serological marker in the context of systemic autoimmune diseases. Their isolated presence is considered strong evidence against a SARD diagnosis, as anti-DFS70 antibodies rarely occur alone in these conditions. On the contrary, when detected in SARD patients, they almost always appear in association with other pathognomonic autoantibodies. As a result, an isolated anti-DFS70 antibody finding in ANA-positive individuals may indicate a low likelihood of SARD, providing valuable support for diagnostic stratification and clinical management.
