e94 - nFel d 1 (Felis domesticus)
Test details
This test is useful when a cat allergy is suspected and to identify the specific molecule that has previously caused positive result in the associated allergen extract test.
Fel d 1 is a uteroglobin, the role of which is still uncertain, produced in the sebaceous, anal and salivary glands, with the highest concentration found in cat fur and epidermis. The prevalence of this molecule exceeds 90% in patients sensitised to cats and the symptoms associated to this allergy typically include allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis and coughing caused by an itchy throat. It has been observed that children with high concentrations of IgE against Fel d 1 are more likely to develop bronchial asthma. There are no reports of significant cross-reactivities with other molecules.
