f233 - nGal d 1 (Egg– Gallus domesticus)
Test details
This test is useful when an egg allergy is suspected and to identify the specific molecule that has previously caused a positive result in the associated allergen extract test.
Also known as ovomucoid, Gal d 1 is a protein found in egg whites and is considered one of the main allergenic protein molecules associated with allergic reactions in children. The prevalence of this molecule can exceed 40% in paediatric patients sensitised to egg. Due to its resistance to both heat and enzymatic digestion, individuals with a suspected allergy to Gal d 1 may experience gastrointestinal, skin, respiratory and mucosal reactions, and even anaphylaxis, also after the ingestion cooked egg white. Cross-reactivities may occur with the whites of turkey, duck and goose eggs.
