Diagnostics
The Euroimmun Italy Laboratory offers specialized diagnostic services in the fields of autoimmunity, allergology, neurology, infectious diseases and endocrinology.
We support clinicians and laboratories in the interpretation of complex cases and diagnostic confirmation through advanced methodologies and standardized protocols.
Autoimmunity
Autoimmunity is a process where a dysregulation of control mechanisms causes the immune system to attack the body’s own cells and tissues. Autoimmunity underlies numerous systemic and organ-specific diseases that are characterised by the presence of autoantibodies targeting self-antigens.
More details
The Autoimmunity section is specialized in the evaluation of the biomarkers and immunological parameters linked to autoimme disease. We offer support for the diagnosis and monitoring through targeted investigations covering:
• Systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD)
• Celiac disease
• Autoimmune liver diseases
• Autoimmune myopathies
• ANCA-associated vasculitides
• Antiphospholipid syndrome
• Autoimmune blistering skin diseases
The reliability of results is assured by the use of advanced laboratory techniques, such as:
• Indirect immunofluorescence
• Immunoblot
• Enzyme immunoassay (ELISA)
• Chemiluminescence (ChLIA)
Laboratorio Euroimmun Italia offers a broad range of highly sensitive and specific tests to support physicians and patients. Our work contributes to early diagnosis, the definition of complex immunological profiles and effective therapeutic monitoring.
Neurology
The neurology and neuroimmunology diagnostic area is a highly specialized section of the laboratory that performs analyses related to neurological disorders of autoimmune and non‑autoimmune origin, which can affect both the central nervous system (e.g., brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (e.g., nerves and muscles).
More details
Our aim is to provide comprehensive support in the diagnosis and classification of these conditions through advanced technologies and highly qualified staff, to ensure high accuracy and prompt results.
Specifically, we perform analyses for conditions such as:
• Paraneoplastic syndromes
• Autoimmune encephalitis
• Neuromyelitis optica
• Myasthenia gravis
• Peripheral polyneuropathies
• Autoimmune nodopathies
• Neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s)
Using advanced techniques such as:
• Indirect immunofluorescence on tissue (tissue-based assay)
• Indirect immunofluorescence on transfected cells (cell-based assays)
• Immunoblot
• Enzyme immunoassay (ELISA)
• Chemiluminescence (ChLIA)
• Immunohistochemistry
Allergology
The Allergology Diagnostic Area is a highly specialized section of the laboratory dedicated to the analysis of allergic and hypersensitivity disorders.
Using specific serological tests and state-of-the-art methodologies, the laboratory identifies inhalant, food, and contact allergens, supporting the clinical evaluation of patients and the personalization of diagnostic and therapeutic pathways.
More details
The aim is to provide reliable, standardized, and clinically relevant results for the effective management of allergic diseases.
Allergies are an acquired hypersensitivity where the body’s immune system overreacts to the contact with a specific external substance (allergen).
In response to an allergen exposure, the immune system produces a specific class of antibodies known as Immunoglobulin E (IgE).
Blood tests that detect specific IgE antibodies are important diagnostic tools to identify allergic sensitisations.
The Component Resolved Diagnosis (CRD) is an advanced test, also known as molecular allergy testing: it allows the precise identification of IgE antibodies against specific proteins (components) within allergens, providing detailed information about the nature of the sensitisation.
In particular, at the Euroimmun Italiy Laboratory, we using immunoblot and chemiluminescence techniques, we perform analyses for the identification of various allergens, including:
• Plants (herbs, grasses, etc.)
• Mites
• Animal epithelia and proteins
• Foods
• Insect venoms
• Molds
Infectiology
The Infectious Diseases section is specialized in targeted serological tests designed to differentiate acute and past infections, or simply to assess a patient’s immune status.
More details
Serological testing is performed for the detection of:
• Bacterial infections (Borrelia, Bordetella, Chlamydia)
• Fungal infections (Aspergillus)
• Viral infections (Measles, Mumps, Varicella, SARS-CoV-2)
In addition to serological testing, we also provide cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) testing, which is essential for differential diagnosis between infectious and non-infectious diseases, particularly when an acute or chronic inflammatory process of the central nervous system is suspected.
Our assays are performed using different testing methods and are integrated into state-of-the-art diagnostic algorithms to provide valuable support to the clinical diagnosis:
• Indirect immunofluorescence
• Immunoblot
• Enzyme immunoassay (ELISA)
• Chemiluminescence
All tests undergo strict internal and external quality controls and are performed by highly qualified staff, continuously trained in the latest diagnostic techniques.
Endocrinology
Endocrinology is the medicine branch that focuses on the study of endocrine glands, the hormones they produce and the regulatory mechanisms that control many of the body’s vital functions, such as metabolism, growth, reproduction and the fluid-electrolyte balance. A disruption of this finely tuned system can cause the development of various endocrinological disorders, many of which are of autoimmune origin.
More details
Endocrine autoimmunity occurs when the failure of the immune system’s control mechanism causes it to attack the endocrine glands and impair their function. This leads to organ-specific diseases, such as:
• Type 1 diabetes mellitus
• Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
• Graves’ disease
• Addison’s disease
• Autoimmune ovarian or testicular insufficiency
These disorders are characterised by the presence of specific autoantibodies, which serve as key biomarkers for diagnosis, classification and clinical monitoring.
Euroimmun Italiy Laboratory is specialized in targeted investigations for autoimmune endocrine diseases, employing advanced techniques such as:
• Indirect immunofluorescence
• Enzyme immunoassay (ELISA)
• Chemiluminescence immunoassay (ChLIA)
